Messi has had a spectacular career, achieving success for both club and country. In 2022, he inspired Argentina to World Cup glory when they defeated France on penalties.
And before joining the Albiceleste on the journey to defend the Copa America title , Messi named the player who made him angriest in his illustrious career. That is Sergio Ramos, who has faced Messi many times in El Clasico matches.
“I fought many times with Sergio Ramos. He is the player that makes me angriest,” Messi said. “Later we were teammates at PSG. But in El Clasico, we always struggled with each other. Classic matches are very tense.”
The 8-time Golden Ball winner often collides with Ramos in heated clashes in La Liga, the King’s Cup or even the Champions League. But, in an unexpected turn of events, they called each other teammates after the Spanish defender joined PSG as a free agent in the summer of 2021.
“There were many years of suffering playing with Messi,” Ramos explained after signing for the French giants. “Now I’m enjoying him. He’s the best footballer football has ever produced.”
Like Messi, Ramos can leave Europe for the US after his contract with Sevilla expires. He has been linked with MLS side San Diego FC as the 38-year-old ruled out retirement this summer.
When asked about retirement, Ramos replied: “Not at all. I still feel physically healthy. I aspire to continue playing football. I think I will continue playing for a year or two.” I had the choice to stay in Sevilla, but I made the decision to try in a new environment.”
Messi is currently playing football in the US, after joining Inter Miami in 2023. He can continue to face Ramos on the field if the defender signs with San Diego FC.
