Martinez scored five goals, two more than the second-placed player, Venezuela’s Salomon Rondon. Julian Alvarez, another Argentinian, Vinicius (Brazil), Darwin Nunez (Uruguay), Jhon Cordoba, Jefferson Lerma, Luis Diaz and Daniel Munoz (Colombia) all scored two goals.
Lautaro started only two of the six matches at the 2024 Copa America. He scored four goals in three group stage matches. In the final, the Inter Milan star entered the field in the 97th minute and scored the winning goal in the 112th minute to help Argentina successfully defend their title.
The Copa America top scorer is Lautaro ‘s third individual title of the 2023-2024 season. Previously, he was crowned Serie A top scorer and best player, after winning the title with Inter Milan.
In 2021, Lionel Messi won the Copa America Golden Boot (shared with Luis Diaz) and Best Player. This time, the best player award went to James Rodriguez. In Colombia’s journey to the final, the former Real Madrid player scored one goal and assisted six.
Emiliano Martinez successfully defended his Copa America Goalkeeper of the Year award. The Aston Villa star played a decisive role in the quarter-final win over Ecuador 4-2 on penalties (1-1 draw after 120 minutes), before making several saves in the 2-0 semi-final win over Canada and the final.
“Winning twice is a great thing for Argentina and the country,” Emiliano Martinez said after the final. The tournament’s best goalkeeper added that Colombia had also played a great game and should be proud of that.
The Fair Play award went to Colombia. On their way to the final, Colombia scored 12 goals and conceded just three.
After a 1-0 win over Colombia in the final, Argentina set a record of 16 Copa America titles, one more than Uruguay. The 2024 Copa America is Argentina’s fourth title in three years, after the 2021 Copa America, the Intercontinental Super Cup and the 2022 World Cup.
