The latest injury update on Lionel Messi comes ahead of the 2024 Copa America semi-final against Canada.
According to veteran journalist Leo Paradizo, the Argentina captain will be in better shape than when he faced Ecuador in the quarter-finals. Writing on Twitter, Paradizo said: ” Leo Messi continues his recovery process, next Tuesday he will be in better shape than when he faced Ecuador. The number 10 is preparing for the semi-finals. This is what we know.”
Messi had previously suffered an injury to his right adductor muscle – in the second group stage match against Chile.
Despite suffering a hamstring injury during the match, Messi played the full 90 minutes. M10 later said that it was not a tear but rather stiffness in the joint when moving. The player then decided to rest the final group match against Peru. He then returned for the match against Ecuador, but things became a little worrying for fans after Messi’s comments at the end of the match.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner said he might not have played in the quarter-final. Messi said he went into the game “with a lot of uncertainty, a lot of anxiety in training”, but felt good throughout the match.
Argentina have once again made it deep into a major international tournament, reaching the Copa America semi-finals. But this time it’s a strange feeling for fans, with arguably the greatest player of all time, Lionel Messi, not quite as explosive as before.
Like Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi has yet to open his account in the tournament and has even missed a penalty. But, with the maestro suffering from injuries over the past few months, fans are now on edge as the big games approach. However, a positive injury update for the star could be a welcome psychological boost ahead of the clash with Canada.
