Miller Moss, the sophomore quarterback at USC, entered the transfer portal on Tuesday, ending his two-year tenure with the Trojans.
Moss, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound native of Los Angeles, was a highly-touted recruit out of high school, where he was ranked the No. 11 quarterback in the country by 247Sports. He redshirted his freshman season in 2021 and then started six games for the Trojans in 2022.
Moss threw for 2,205 yards and 10 touchdowns in his two seasons at USC. He also rushed for 352 yards and three touchdowns.
Moss’ decision to enter the transfer portal comes as a surprise to many. He was expected to compete for the starting job at USC in 2023. However, the Trojans signed Caleb Williams, a five-star quarterback from Oklahoma, in the transfer portal this offseason.
Moss is now eligible to transfer to any other FBS school. He is expected to have several offers from top programs.
Moss’ decision leaves USC with a quarterback competition between Williams and sophomore Jaxson Dart.
Williams is a highly-touted recruit who has been one of the most talked-about quarterbacks in the transfer portal. He started 11 games for Oklahoma in 2022, throwing for 4,522 yards and 47 touchdowns.
Dart started five games for USC in 2022, throwing for 1,352 yards and five touchdowns. He is a dual-threat quarterback who is also capable of running the ball.
The Trojans will have a new offensive coordinator in 2023, with Graham Harrell taking over for Lincoln Riley. Harrell is a former quarterback himself who has a reputation for being a good developer of quarterbacks.
It remains to be seen who will win the starting job at USC in 2023. However, the Trojans have two talented quarterbacks who could both be successful.
