Following Inter Miami’s inaugural Leagues Cup victory over Puebla, Luis Suarez delivers an update on Lionel Messi’s injury status.
Inter Miami striker Luis Suarez has released an injury report on captain Lionel Messi following The Herons’ 2-0 Leagues Cup victory against Puebla on July 28.
Messi suffered an ankle injury during Argentina’s 1-0 extra-time win over Colombia in the Copa America final earlier this month. Since then, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has missed three games for his club, and his return date remains unknown.
Luis Suarez verified that Messi’s injury is healing properly.
Suarez recently stated following the victory over Puebla that his teammates are in peak physical condition and would soon return to the pitch:
“Everyone knows how committed Leo Messi is to this club, to the national team and how much he wants to play. As the months go by, he is getting closer to the day he returns to the pitch, where we all want to see Messi.”
Lionel Messi’s first season with Inter Miami began with a rough start due to injury. In 2024, the 1987-born hero scored 14 goals and assisted 11 times in 15 outings across all competitions.
This includes 12 goals and nine assists in 12 MLS games, and the Herons currently lead the standings by five points after 25 games. M10 also scored two goals and two assists in three games in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, as Tata Martinez’s team was eliminated in the quarterfinals.
Messi missed the 1-2 first-leg home defeat to Monterrey due to injury, but he assisted in the return match, as the Herons fell 1-3 and 2-5 on aggregate.
